Here is the handout from the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year - if you would like more info on any of these programs, please look for the email of people listed below.  TWIST & KWEST classes often change up a bit at semester, so contacting those people soon will ensure you know what new classes are available!

Personal information has been removed for privacy, except for my personal contact info.  This will at least give an idea of what programs are available through our group - if you need more info just let me know & I'll send your info to the appropriate person.

Quincy Area Christian Home Educators (QACHE)
Parent Informational Meeting for 2013-14 Academic Year

QACHE falls under the Illinois Christian Home Educators.   You can go on the Illinois Christian Home Educators’ website www.iche.org and sign up to receive their free home school magazine.  Mention this number when joining the Home School Legal Defense (HSLDA) www.hslda.org and get a discount on your membership.

Remember it’s up to YOU to see that these suggestions and ideas happen.  There is no prevailing committee of people that organizes and makes things happen.  This is YOUR group.  If you would like suggestions or advice about how to organize a specific event or activity from parents who have been in the group longer, feel free to contact anyone on the executive committee and we’ll do our best to point you toward the individuals who can give you the best information and help.

Email is for QACHE related material only.  If you have something that is not a QACHE event, you may send it out one time through the group.  Information sent should be informative, not a subjective opinion.  If in doubt, please send to a member of executive committee for review.  Beginning October 10th, emails will only be sent through the Yahoo Group, so be sure to have an account set up prior to that date.

Setting up your QACHE Yahoo account:
·        Create a Yahoo ID if you do not already have one (remember to write down your Yahoo ID and password!) J
·        You can enter your current email address as the Primary Address.  All group emails will go to the primary address set up on your Yahoo ID
·        Accept the Invite you will receive asking to join the QACHE Yahoo group
·        To send an email to everyone, just enter QACHE@yahoogroups.com in the “To” line of your email program
Accessing the QACHE Yahoo Group site:
·        First sign into Yahoo
·        Then open the QACHE Yahoo site in another tab or window (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/QACHE/ )
·        If you need to change the email address used for QACHE, refer to the HOW TO document on the site under “Files”

Every family who completes a Family Membership Form will be listed in the directory.  We realize there are many within our group who teach private lessons in various fine arts or have products or services to sell.  If your family owns a business and you would like to be featured on our business page in the directory, please get all information to Cindy by October 1st.             Combines Biblical worldview and classical tools of learning as paid tutors equip parents and encourage students.
Parents accompany the students each week through classes where fun methods are used to “train the brain to retain.” Foundations (K-6th) meets 9 am – noon; Essentials (4th-6th) 1 pm - 3p.m.Wednesdays Aug 28 - Nov 13, 2013 & Jan 8 – March 26, 2014 @ Cornerstone Baptist Church 7918 Hwy MM, Hannibal. There will be an informational meeting on Thurs, August 1st @ home of Amber Speer 1300 S 19th St Quincy.

Creative Homemaker’s Club                            Alona                                                     
Part of the Illinois Association for Home & Community Education (HCE). Our group is made up of homeschooling families who wish to pass on traditional homemaking to the next generation, mothers and daughters meet twice each month at the Farm Bureau Building in Quincy learning homemaking skills and participating in community service projects.  Yearly dues are $15 per family.  Date and time will be determined by the members.

A playschool/mother's day out program that will meet from 10am-1pm on either Tuesdays or Fridays (TBA).  Lots of outdoor time, painting, cooking, & hands-on learning with an emphasis on friendships & family support.   My hope is for parents to make friends as well so they can support each other as their children grow into more formal homeschooling!  We'll meet through mid-November the first semester, with spring dates TBA.  Parents do not need to stay, although they are welcome to come observe or participate anytime.  There is a small fee which will depend on where we rent.  We have 3 possible locations at the time of this printing, so contact me if you would like updates or more information.  Ages 3-6, 14 spots total, 5 left.

High school students are given a challenge and work together as a team to build a robot that will perform the assigned task.    More information about the program can be found at usfirst.com/ftc.  We will meet on Fridays from 3:30 – 5:00  at Klingner and Associates'  office, located on the corner of 24th and College.

If you have a new fieldtrip idea, or would like to organize a fieldtrip, please do so!  Simply check with Cindy Crist cristcindy@yahoo.com who oversees the QACHE calendar to be sure there is no major conflict with other events.   Then send out a group email with your specific details, sign-up, etc.   Remember:  As coordinator of a field trip, please designate a photographer for submitting photos to the yearbook.

When it comes to homeschool activities and fieldtrips, please consider the following “Important Job” story:

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.  Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did.  Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.  Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t.  It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
