Homeschool Conference

I send this in an email to the group as well, but this at least has the date & web address if you're interested.. it's in Springfield.

Monday, July 3, 2017

Sign up now for session 2 of Countryside Playschool summer session!

We still have room in our prek class for the second session - choose 1 or 2 days or call for drop in availability.  We meet from 10-1 on Wednesday & Friday through the first week of August. See countrysideplayschool.blogspot.com for pictures & info!

We have lots of outdoor time

Even some wildlife!

Art for every age

Cooking class on Wednesdays

Multi-age classrooms - just like real life!

High quality art materials mean better results.  They cost more than the Wal-Mart version but they're worth it!

Freedom to choose activities within a loose structure develops decision making skills as well as problem solving. Giving children responsibility with items like hot glue gluns & knives in the kitchen (with instruction & supervision!) builds confidence & independence.

Wild & Free Info

TEACH is the place to be for personal connections in the Tri-State area....but it can also be nice to have some connections in the wider world.  There are opportunites a-plenty but the Wild & Free community is one that I continue to be inspired & encouraged by - and they also offer family camps & conventions so that you can meet in person!  Their website intro is below, but be sure to check out their actual website & download whatever freebies are offered.

Henry David Thoreau wrote, “All good things are wild and free.” This quote is the inspiration for the Wild + Free community because it depicts an emerging group of mothers and homeschoolers who want their children to not only receive a quality education, but also to experience the adventure, freedom, and wonder of childhood.
For as long as humans have lived on this earth, children have been schooled at home. Still, we homeschooling mamas often feel like pioneers forging a new path for the next generation. It’s not easy, but with a community of women to support and encourage each other, we're going to make it and have incredible stories to share and inspire. Here’s to being a pioneer!
You can find Wild + Free on Instagram at @wildandfree.co, but we also host conferences throughout the year (sign up for updates), publish books and magazines, and produce monthly content bundles packed with articles, how-tos, downloadable resources, nature journal tutorials, podcasts and videos from ordinary-but-inspiring homeschooling mamas from all over the world.

Novermber Forest School w/ friends - Lantern Festival/Martinmas

The forest became sweetly magical as darkness settled around us, lanterns hung around base camp to illuminate our pot luck dinner

Making our capes for Lantern Festival - similar to St. Martin's cape

Family - why many of us choose to homeschool

Freedom to explore & take risks = future leaders who can think independently & not become 'sheeple'

The freedom so take risks & be successful - or learn from mistakes

This engineer built a structure all by himself while several others debated what to build!

After our time in the woods we visited a nearby corn maze & had dinner together

We had 30 attend our first free forest school!  Hope to have as many as that in our next one!

Forest School Martinmas Celebration - Lantern Walk - Potluck

Forest School in November will be a bit later in the day, so that we can enjoy the night sounds in the woods & see our homemade lanterns glow!

Let's meet at 'base camp' across the bridge & make our lanterns at 4pm.  Then we can get the campfire going & enjoy our potluck dinner.  After a 15-20 minute walk (on clear gravel paths - jogging strollers will do fine), we'll head back to base camp for campfire songs & s'mores.  End time around 7/8.

We will make our own lanterns to carry with us & light the way on our lantern walk....we will collect coats & other warm clothing to be exchanged with each other or donated to shelters in the same way St. Martin shared his cloak with a beggar....bring a dish to share for a potluck dinner....bring blankets/chairs to sit on around the campfire.
